Teeling Whiskey Distillery, Dublin — one of Ireland's landmark craft distilleries
For Distillery Operators

Your Distillery, on a Banknote

A souvenir as distinctive as your whiskey — and one that keeps travelling long after the visit

Irish whiskey is the fastest-growing spirits category in the world. Behind that growth are dozens of distilleries — from century-old heritage operations to ambitious new craft producers — each with a story as compelling as the liquid in the bottle. A custom 0 Euro Souvenir Banknote puts your distillery's story in a visitor's pocket, to be carried home and shared for years.

Ireland's distillery visitor experience has been transformed in the past decade. The Jameson Experience at Midleton now welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Dublin's Liberties became one of the city's most popular attractions within years of opening. Tullamore D.E.W. Heritage Centre, Dingle Distillery, Slane Castle Distillery and a growing number of craft producers across the country have all built visitor experiences that draw both Irish and international guests.

Every one of those visitors is a potential souvenir buyer — and yet most distillery gift shops offer largely the same range: branded glassware, miniature bottles, printed cloths. A custom 0 Euro Souvenir Banknote offers something genuinely different. It is exclusive to your distillery, produced on genuine banknote paper, and backed by the same security features as real Euro currency. Visitors have never seen anything like it before — and that fascination converts directly into sales.

Euro Note Souvenir Ltd holds the exclusive licence to produce 0 Euro Souvenir Banknotes for the Republic of Ireland. We work directly with distilleries, visitor attractions and hospitality businesses to design, produce and supply custom notes tailored to your brand and story.

Why the 0 Euro Banknote Works for Distilleries

The 0 Euro Souvenir concept was invented in France in 2015 and has since spread to ten European countries. In every market where it has launched, it has become a top-selling item at attractions of all kinds. For distilleries in particular, it is an exceptionally strong fit — and here is why.

🥃

Brand elevation at point of purchase

Printed on genuine banknote paper by an ECB-accredited facility, the 0 Euro note carries immediate prestige. Visitors examining it — feeling the texture, seeing the hologram and watermark — associate that quality directly with your whiskey brand. It is not a novelty item; it is a premium collectible.

💶

A new revenue stream with attractive margins

With retail prices typically between €5 and €7 and a low unit cost, the margin per note is strong. A distillery welcoming 30,000 visitors per year and converting just 5% would generate €7,500–10,500 in additional souvenir revenue — on top of existing gift shop sales, with no additional staffing required.

📣

Your brand travels with every note

Irish whiskey has a global fanbase. When a visitor from the US, Germany, Japan or Australia takes your banknote home, they carry your distillery's name into their world — shown to friends, shared on social media, displayed in a collector's album. Every note sold is a physical ambassador for your brand, at no ongoing marketing cost.

🎁

Accessible to every visitor

Distillery visits attract whiskey enthusiasts, casual tourists, corporate groups, and food-and-drink travellers. Unlike premium gift items with high price points, a banknote appeals across all segments — an impulse purchase for a first-time visitor, a deliberate acquisition for a serious collector.

🌍

Particularly powerful with international visitors

International visitors — the Americans, Germans, French, and Japanese who travel to Ireland specifically for its whiskey heritage — are ideal customers for a 0 Euro note. They understand the collector concept, appreciate the quality, and are actively looking for an exclusive, high-quality souvenir that connects their trip to Irish whiskey culture.

ECB-approved, genuine banknote paper

Printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire in France — one of the European Central Bank's licensed printing partners — on genuine banknote paper with full security features including hologram, watermark, UV ink, microprint and unique serial numbers. The result is a product that impresses on first contact and holds its perceived value over time.

Ireland's Whiskey Renaissance — and the Souvenir Gap

In 2010 there were just four distilleries operating in the Republic of Ireland. Today there are more than forty, with more in development. Irish whiskey exports have grown dramatically — now a globally recognised category, competing with Scotch, Bourbon and Japanese whisky for the attention of enthusiasts worldwide.

With that growth has come a surge in distillery tourism. Visitors come not just to taste, but to understand the story — the grain, the water, the copper stills, the years in wood. They are engaged, emotionally invested, and primed to buy a souvenir that captures the experience.

And yet the souvenir market has not kept pace with the quality of the visitor experience. Most distillery gift shops offer branded glassware and clothing that can be found online. The 0 Euro Banknote fills that gap — a product that is genuinely exclusive, beautifully crafted, and impossible to replicate at home or online.

How It Works — Simple from Concept to Shelf

The process is straightforward and fully managed by us. You do not need design expertise, printing knowledge or a large budget to get started. Here is how we take your distillery from concept to collector's item.

  1. Get in touch Contact us via our enquiry form or email us at info@euronotesouvenir.ie. We'll discuss your distillery, your brand, and the options available. There is no obligation at this stage.
  2. Provide your imagery and brand assets Share a high-quality photograph or image of your distillery — ideally one that captures its most distinctive angle or character. We can also incorporate your logo and brand colours within the design constraints of the banknote format.
  3. We design your note Our design team creates a custom banknote layout featuring your distillery, your brand name and the distinctive 0 Euro format. You review and approve the design before anything goes to print. We can work through revisions to get it right.
  4. Production at Oberthur Fiduciaire Your approved design is sent to Oberthur Fiduciaire in France, the ECB-accredited printer. Notes are produced on genuine banknote paper with full security features: hologram, watermark, UV ink, microprint and unique serial numbers.
  5. Delivery and display Notes are delivered to your distillery. We can supply a vending machine — a sleek, ATM-style unit ideal for a distillery reception or tasting room — or a compact counter display for your gift shop checkout. Both options operate with minimal staff involvement.

The Vending Machine — Revenue Built into the Visitor Flow

The optional vending machine is ideally suited to the distillery visitor experience. It is a modern, self-service unit — roughly the size of a small ATM — that slots naturally into the end of a distillery tour, the entrance to a tasting room, or the exit of a heritage centre.

Visitors who have just completed a tour are at peak engagement with your brand. That is the moment the vending machine captures — when the storytelling is fresh, the emotional connection is strong, and the desire for a lasting memento is highest. The machine handles the transaction and dispenses the note; no staff involvement is required.

Many attractions report that the machine itself becomes a talking point — visitors photograph it and share the experience before they have even left the building. A counter display is also available for lower-footprint settings, such as a checkout point in your gift shop or bar.

Find out more about display and merchandising options on our Products & Services page.

"The notes are hugely successful and have become a substantial revenue driver for those institutions who have issued their own notes, as tourists, visitors and collectors even from abroad seek to obtain these special notes."

Beyond the Gift Shop — the Long-Term Marketing Value

The 0 Euro Banknote is unusual among souvenir products in that it generates ongoing, organic marketing long after the initial purchase. Consider what happens to a note sold at your distillery:

In your tasting room and gift shop

The note creates a moment of genuine surprise and delight. Visitors who have never encountered a 0 Euro note before are fascinated — they examine the hologram, hold it up to the light to see the watermark, ask questions. That curiosity drives purchases and elevates the overall perception of your visitor experience and retail offering.

In the homes of your visitors

Unlike a tasting note or a bottle of house-brand whiskey, a banknote is displayed. Visitors put it in frames, collector's albums, or keep it in their wallet as a conversation piece. When they show it to friends and family who have never visited your distillery, they become advocates — telling the story of their visit, sharing the excitement of the format. Your distillery's name travels into living rooms across Ireland, the UK, the US, and further afield.

Within the collector community

The 0 Euro collecting community is active and growing across Europe and North America. A new Irish distillery edition is a notable release — collectors seek out new editions and purchase online if they cannot visit in person. This creates a secondary revenue channel entirely independent of footfall, powered by the same collector enthusiasm that drives the broader 0 Euro market.

The limited edition advantage

Notes are typically produced in print runs of 5,000 to 10,000. That scarcity is built into the product — and scarcity is one of the most powerful drivers of purchase intent. Visitors who hesitate know they may not find the note available on a future visit. That urgency is entirely natural, and it is one of the reasons conversion rates at 0 Euro vending points tend to be high.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 0 Euro Banknote genuine currency?
No — it has a face value of zero and is not legal tender. It is a collectible souvenir, approved by the European Central Bank (ECB) and printed on genuine banknote paper by an ECB-accredited printer. It cannot enter circulation as currency. Its value is entirely as a collectible, gift and keepsake.
Can we include our logo and branding on the note?
Yes. The banknote design can incorporate your distillery name, imagery and — within the constraints of the standard 0 Euro format — your brand identity. We will work with you on the design to ensure the result is something you are proud to put your name on.
How exclusive is our distillery's note?
Euro Note Souvenir Ltd holds the exclusive production and distribution licence for 0 Euro Souvenir Banknotes in the Republic of Ireland. Your custom note is designed exclusively for your distillery — no other producer can create a note with your imagery or branding.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimum production runs and pricing details are discussed individually, as they depend on design, volume and display options. Contact us for a tailored quotation — we work with operations of all sizes, from large heritage visitor centres to smaller craft distilleries. See our pricing page for an overview.
Can we sell the notes online as well as on-site?
Yes. Many operators choose to make their notes available both on-site and through an online shop. This reaches the collector market directly and allows previous visitors to purchase a note they may have passed on during their tour.
Do we need a dedicated gift shop to sell the notes?
No. The vending machine is entirely self-contained and requires no staffing. Even distilleries without a full gift shop operation can place a unit at the end of the tour route or in their tasting room and generate revenue automatically. A counter display offers a lower-footprint alternative for smaller spaces.
Which Irish attractions have already used this concept?
The Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum was among the first Irish attractions to commission a custom 0 Euro note — a commemorative edition for their 30th anniversary. We are now actively working with a growing number of Irish visitor attractions across heritage, hospitality and culture. Browse our current range to see what is possible.
