Your Castle, on a Banknote
The souvenir that sells itself — and keeps your story alive long after the visit
Irish castles attract millions of visitors every year. Kilkenny Castle alone welcomed over 400,000 people in a single year. The Rock of Cashel draws more than 365,000 annually. Blarney Castle is consistently among the most visited attractions in Ireland. These numbers represent enormous souvenir potential — and yet most castle gift shops offer the same postcards, fridge magnets and tea towels found at every other attraction in the country.
A custom 0 Euro Souvenir Banknote changes that. It gives your castle a unique, exclusive product — one that visitors can only get from you. Printed on genuine banknote paper by the same facility that prints Euro currency, it carries real prestige. It looks and feels like money. It has holograms, watermarks and UV security features. And it has your castle on the front.
Euro Note Souvenir Ltd holds the exclusive licence to produce 0 Euro Souvenir Banknotes for the Republic of Ireland. We work directly with castle operators, heritage sites and visitor attractions to design, produce and supply custom notes tailored to your attraction.
Why the 0 Euro Banknote Works for Castles
The 0 Euro Souvenir concept was invented in France in 2015 and has since spread across ten European countries — France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland and Ireland. In every country where it has launched, it has become one of the best-selling souvenir products at attractions large and small. Here is why it works so well at castles specifically.
Exclusive to your attraction
Your custom note is designed exclusively around your castle — its image, its name, its history. Visitors cannot buy it anywhere else. That exclusivity drives impulse purchases at the point of sale and creates genuine demand among collectors.
Additional revenue stream
With retail prices typically between €5 and €7, and low wholesale cost per unit, the margin per note is attractive. A castle seeing 50,000 visitors per season and selling to just 5% of them would generate €12,500–17,500 in additional souvenir revenue.
Lasting marketing beyond the gates
Visitors take your banknote home to Ireland, to the UK, to the US, to Germany. They show it to family and friends. They share it on social media. Every note that leaves your site is a physical ambassador for your castle — free marketing that travels the world.
Perfect for all ages and budgets
Unlike expensive gift-shop items, a banknote is an accessible, low-cost purchase that appeals to every visitor — from children fascinated by the security features to adult collectors looking for the next addition to their 0 Euro collection.
Popular with international visitors
American tourists in particular have a deep affinity for the 0 Euro concept — the notes resemble dollar bills in format, and the idea of bringing home a genuine banknote from a historic Irish castle is enormously appealing. European collectors also actively seek out Irish editions.
ECB-approved, genuine banknote paper
Printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire in France — one of the European Central Bank's licensed printing partners — on genuine banknote paper with full security features. The quality elevates your brand. Visitors are genuinely impressed when they examine it.
Already in the Collection
Kilkenny Castle — built in 1195 and one of Ireland's most visited heritage sites — already has its own commemorative 0 Euro note in our range. A limited-edition collectible available in our online shop and a reference point for what your own castle's note could look like.

Ireland's castles are among the most emotionally resonant visitor destinations in the world. Visitors don't just tour them — they connect with them. They stand in the same great halls as Norman lords and Gaelic chieftains. They walk the same battlements. They carry that emotional connection out through the gate.
That connection is exactly what drives souvenir purchases. Visitors want a physical anchor for their experience — something they can hold, display and share. The 0 Euro Banknote delivers that in a format that is unexpected, high-quality and conversation-starting.
Whether you manage a medieval tower house, a fortified manor, a Gothic Revival castle or a heritage ruin, the concept works at every scale. Some of Ireland's most successful 0 Euro launches have been at smaller, regional attractions — not just the headline sites.

How It Works — Simple from Start to Shelf
The process is straightforward and fully managed by us. You don't need design expertise, printing knowledge or a large budget to get started. Here is how we take your castle from concept to collector's item.
- Get in touch Contact us via our enquiry form or email us at info@euronotesouvenir.ie. We'll discuss your attraction, your goals and the options available to you. There's no obligation at this stage.
- Provide your imagery Share a high-quality photograph or image of your castle — ideally one that captures its most iconic angle. We work with what you have, and can advise on what makes the best design.
- We design your note Our design team creates a custom banknote layout featuring your castle, your attraction name and the distinctive 0 Euro format. You review and approve the design before anything goes to print.
- Production at Oberthur Fiduciaire Your approved design is sent to Oberthur Fiduciaire in France, the ECB-accredited printer. Notes are produced on genuine banknote paper with full security features: hologram, watermark, UV ink, microprint and unique serial numbers.
- Delivery and display Notes are delivered to your attraction. We can also supply a vending machine — a modern, ATM-style unit that sits at your entrance, reception or gift shop — or a compact counter display for the payment desk. The machine does the selling for you.

The optional vending machine is one of the most powerful elements of the concept. It is a sleek, modern unit — roughly the size of a small ATM — designed to attract curious glances and trigger impulse purchases with no staff involvement required.
You simply position it, fill it, and collect the revenue. The machine handles the transaction, dispenses the note and creates a memorable experience for the visitor. Many attractions report that the machine itself becomes a talking point — visitors photograph it and share the experience on social media before they've even left the building.
A counter display is also available for placement at your ticket desk or gift shop checkout, offering a lower-footprint option for smaller attractions or as a complement to the vending machine.

"The notes are hugely successful and have become a substantial revenue driver for those institutions who have issued their own notes, as tourists, visitors and collectors even from abroad seek to obtain these special notes."— Euro Note Souvenir Ltd, on the European track record of the concept
Beyond the Gift Shop — The Marketing Value of a Castle Banknote
The 0 Euro Banknote is unusual among souvenir products in that it functions as ongoing, organic marketing long after the purchase. Consider the lifecycle of a typical note sold at your castle:
At the point of sale
The note creates a moment of delight. Visitors who have never encountered a 0 Euro note are genuinely fascinated — they examine the hologram, hold it up to the light to see the watermark, show it to their travelling companions. That excitement converts browsers into buyers and elevates the perception of your gift shop as a whole.
At home — and shared with others
Unlike a postcard that gets placed in a drawer, a banknote gets displayed — in a frame, in a wallet, in a collector's album. Visitors from the US, Germany, the UK and across Europe bring your castle's name into their homes. They show it to family and friends who have never visited Ireland. They post it online. Your castle travels with every note.
Within the collector community
The 0 Euro collecting community is active and growing across Europe and North America. A new Irish castle note is an event — collectors actively seek out new Irish editions and will purchase online if they cannot visit in person. This extends your souvenir revenue beyond your physical visitor base and creates a demand channel that runs independently of footfall.
Limited edition appeal
Notes are typically produced in print runs of 5,000 to 10,000. That natural scarcity increases perceived value, encourages early purchase behaviour and creates urgency — visitors who hesitate risk missing out. "Limited edition" is one of the most powerful phrases in retail. Your banknote has it built in.
